Business Travel: Greenville, SC

Let’s eat Sushi!

I have to travel a lot for business: making sales calls, testing samples, etc. With this travel comes the challenge of walking out of your comfort zone. Once you establish your safety nest near your home, I become uneasy. I know it’s fun to try new places, but the fear overlaps the fun.

So, today I traveled to Greenville, SC for two days of traveling with sales reps. Once lunch time came, the rep was kind enough to ask where I would prefer to go due to my allergies, but any suggestion I made that would be quick and easy was not appealing to him, so we parted ways for lunch. ha!

I googled sushi restaurants near me, and I chose to blind follow the first restaurant recommended since I was very short on time. Business travel makes you make very fast decisions—sometimes may be good and sometimes may be bad!

I chose Irashiai Sushi Pub—it combined two things I love: sushi and quaint pubs! However, not what my hopes wanted. I was hoping for the rustic pub vibe or anything pub-like, but it was a typical sushi spot. Either way, I was excited about sushi!

After looking over the menu, I could see that none of the rolls would suit for the dairy and soy allergies. The noodles would be good for the dairy allergy, but not the soy. Fried foods, cream cheese, sauces etc—all of these were mixed in. Thankfully, they made my Rainbow Roll without cream cheese. I paired it with a green tea, although ginger tea would have been better, but they did not have that.

Again, being on a business trip means making the most of every second, so I planned on answering emails, working on projects, sending quotes, and yes, blogging, but Irashiai does not have wifi, so I was disappointed. I had to eat quickly so I could go find a Starbucks to work in.

The sushi roll was good though. Tasted fresh, and I love adding ginger to my rolls, which definitely made it that much better. They did not have any soy sauce substitution on the table, so I chose not to ask since I was in a rush.

Their menu was not very helpful when browsing. Having symbols by each dish takes away the guess work for food allergies. They did this (see below) for Gluten, Spicy and signature dishes, but not for any other allergy.

Overall thoughts? If you’re going for sushi only, then great, you should be able to ask the chef to make you a combination that will fit to your needs. If you’re going for an unique experience with an awesome atmosphere, this really isn’t the place.
